Candace Cain

A little about me

Thanks for stopping by. I know the importance of carefully selecting your birth team and it would be an honour to join yours. I’m Candace, the doula behind Candace Cain Doula Services. I wear many hats these days including a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and doula. Each one brings me so much joy. I have always been one to support those around me but my strong pull in this direction started after the birth of my own daughter. During my pregnancy and more specifically after I had my daughter I really realized the need birthers have for support throughout pregnancy, birth and the sacred postpartum period. I believe in your ability to birth your babe and I am so honoured you have considered me to join your journey. I am also an advocate for responsive parenting and I believe the best way to achieve that is by supporting the birther. It isn't just healthy baby/healthy birther that matters, that is actually the bare minimum, your entire experience matters. I’m passionate about helping you advocate for yourself, providing evidence based info and I think most importantly being there along side you for the entire journey as a doula-to support. Whether it’s your 1st or your 5th pregnancy, it’s a major milestone. I make it my work to support you and your choices every step of the way

My Offerings

"Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers-strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength"

I understand each pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience is unique, for this reason I strive to offer unique support to you and your needs.

Pregnancy

Support Through Birth

I believe you know your body and your baby best and I believe in your ability to birth your baby. I aim to bring unwavering support to you and your family before, during and after birth. I will stay in close contact in order to check in with how you’re doing and
offer support, suggestions and affirmations. I would never over shadow the role of your partner, I am here to help them too; and if you don't have one with you I can fill that role. I offer both in person and online support depending on your wishes. Find out more about this investment under Packages.

Postpartum Support

My postpartum support goal is to ensure you get the best information and care possible. I aim to nurture you and your new family. Duties will vary based on your unique experience and requests but might include light cleaning such as laundry or loading or unloading the dishwasher, going for walks with you and your new baby, holding the baby while you shower or nap or rest, prepping some food for you to cook later or sometimes it just means sitting and replaying your unique birth experience and reminding you how well you did. Some packages include postpartum support but this can be purchased as a separate or an add on. Find out more about this investment under Packages or reach out today.

Respectful/Gentle Parenting

After having my own daughter I soon discovered mainstream parenting did not feel authentic to me. It felt forced and often left me feeling insecure as a new mom and full of anxiety. Once I discovered an approach that worked for me suddenly motherhood became enjoyable and my relationship with my daughter blossomed. Respectful parenting begins at birth. Acts such as telling baby you are going to wipe their nose before doing it, or letting them know you are going to change their clothes now and giving them a minute before picking them up sets the tone for a lifelong respectful relationship with them. I offer consults and discussions to help find what feels authentic to you and your unique family. I also specialize in highly sensitive babies and toddlers. A one time consult is $75

Juicy Bite

Feeding and Nutrition Birth-One Year

All too often new parenthood is clouded by feeding insecurities and questions. It was easier to nourish them in pregnancy but it can be tricker now that they are here. Parenthood and especially new parenthood should never be clouded by feeding. Remember you are not alone. Your babies weight is not a report card. Regardless if you are nursing, bottle feeding or weaning I can offer support and evidence based information to get you through it. I also offer support for starting solids beginning at about 6 months of age. This is a time many parents have fears and questions. Consults range from $50-$100

Young Mother

Prenatal/Postpartum Classes

In these virtual or in person classes we will be covering the 3rd trimester and important nutrition, healthy habits and comfort measures. Labour by the different stages, labouring positions and comfort measures. Common interventions and choices you have. C-sections, and what happens when your birth plan changes. The first hour after birth, recovery, newborn tips and feeding. The postpartum period and what happens next! It’s an informative course that leaves you feeling prepared. Classes with be held privately over Zoom or in your home. Class cost is $120 for up to 2 people

My Process

Nurturing Care

As an experienced and Dona trained doula I am well equipped to assist you while you navigate your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I firmly believe that a new baby does much better in life with happy, healthy caregivers and that each new caregiver needs a village. I can be your village. I can help during pregnancy with all the millions of things you would otherwise turn to Google for! I set aside time for weekly calls so we can catch up on your pregnancy and how you are feeling. Birth should always be supported and the more support the better. I will be your person and if you have a partner I will be their person too! Postpartum should always be supported and nurtured. I am here to assist with that. However you need me. Sometimes that means holding babe so you can shower or nap, sometimes that’s doing light cleaning or laundry, running errands or cooking meals. I tailor my services to your immediate needs. Most of all though, I love this work, I love watching your journey and being a calm, confident presence beside you. Sending so much love to everyone exploring the possibility of a doula.
